Last weekend, my husband and I decided we wanted to take a last-minute trip down to Galveston! We have been living in the Houston-area for over a year and had never been, so we thought it was about time we checked it out.
We mainly just wanted to relax, sit by the pool and drink a few margaritas! We decided to stay at the Hotel Galvez Resort and Spa because it looked very unique and it had a nice pool area. We knew we were going to sit by the pool the majority of the time, so we wanted the hotel to have a nice pool and a swim up bar!
I was really impressed with the resort! It is a very old and historic resort, but it has been restored beautifully. It still has a very old-time, 1920s feel, but it is amazing. I definitely love that older vibe.
Another really neat thing about this hotel is that they offer live jazz music every Friday and Saturday night. How neat!
You have to have a cute outfit for a resort getaway right?
My cover-up is Gianni Bini. I bought it from Dillards back in February. You can find my hat here at Tuckernuck.
Luckily, our resort was right across the street from the beach, so we were able to take a nice stroll along the water in the morning. This resort is also located about a half mile from Pleasure Pier. If you have kids or like amusement parks, this would be a great place to visit!
The front of the resort was gorgeous. They offer several chairs outside to take in the views of the beach, sunset and beautiful palm trees. It really is picture perfect!
After strolling along the beach in the morning, it was time for us to hit the pool (because let’s be honest…..Texas Summers = sweat!).
I thought the pool was great! It was an average-sized pool with tons of chairs. It was also nice that they had fans with misters outside. I have actually never seen that feature at a resort, but it is definitely nice to have in the summer. My favorite part of the pool was the swim-up bar!
We sure do love our margaritas!
After being at the pool all day, it was time to find some fresh seafood for dinner! We decided to try a restaurant called BLVD. Seafood. It was only about a mile away from our resort, and it was right along the waterfront. Double win!
Isn’t my date so handsome?
This restaurant was super neat. It was very trendy and modern. The overall vibe of the restaurant was great – I loved that it wasn’t a HUGE restaurant. I love smaller restaurants for some reason.
We tried a new Chardonnay for dinner. We really enjoyed it – it was a well-balanced Chardonnay – both buttery and refreshing.
Y’all…..this gumbo was ON POINT. So amazing.
For dinner, we split an entrée. It was scallops, shrimp and Texas Redfish with a side of green beans and risotto. All of our favorites!
We capped off the night, with a nightcap (more like a bottle of wine) and jazz music.
It was the perfect ending to a perfect weekend with my husband! We loved relaxing, listening to live jazz music and sipping on Cabernet. It sounds like something old people would do, but we are very much “old souls” and this was the best part of our night!
All in all, it was a great weekend. We did zero planning (which is weird for us since we are extremely Type A), but it worked out well. Sometimes, you just need to take an impulse getaway trip and go with the flow! Everyone needs a little R&R every now and then.
Have you ever taken an last-minute getaway trip? What are your favorite places to travel to for a weekend of relaxing? Has anyone else ever stayed here in Galveston?
