We decided to take a quick trip up to Dallas/Forth Worth this past weekend to check out a few events. It only takes us about 3-3.5 hours to drive up, so it is a really easy trip for us.
We left on Friday afternoon and drove to Fort Worth first. We had plans to go to the Pat Green concert at Billy Bob’s. For those that may not know, Billy Bob’s is actually the largest honky-tonk in the entire world! They always have a ton of really fun country artists that come and play there. It isn’t necessarily “big name” country artists like Eric Church, but they have really good, smaller name artists that perform.
I love going to smaller concerts like this because they are always more fun and more intimate. I think the artists enjoy it more too.
Before the concert, we went to Joe T. Garcia’s. This is a Fort Worth staple. It is a Mexican restaurant and they don’t have a formal menu! It is also cash only. They offer fajitas or enchiladas. Alex and I ordered one of each so we could sample each other’s food, but we should have definitely split one dish! The portions were huge! I also had a few margaritas to accompany my meal – they were very tasty and strong. I would recommend this restaurant if you are ever in the Fort Worth area!
- Bonus Tip: We actually sat outside because the weather was beautiful. Their patio is amazing. If you can sit outside, do it. We waited an extra 30-40 minutes to sit outside, but it was worth it.
Staying up past midnight wore us out(we are old), so we slept in Saturday morning and then went to lunch/brunch in Dallas. We actually got Mexican (again) and decided to try Meso Maya. It was really well rated plus, I can’t say ‘No’ to tacos! I enjoyed my meal. There were so many dishes I wanted to try so I will have to go back some other time.
After lunch, I wanted to check out the Draper James store, so we headed to Highland Park Village. Reese Witherspoon opened up the cutest store in both Nashville and Dallas. The theme of the store is southern and they sell the cutest dresses and knick-knacks for your home. I wish I had an event to wear one of the dresses to! I ended up buying a shirt and a candle – didn’t want to go overboard because we are saving up for house projects.
After walking around the Highland Park area, we wanted to check out the Bishops Art District. This is a fun little place where you can walk around, check out the local shops, grab a bite to eat and just relax. There were some very interesting shops in the area. Alex and I aren’t really into artsy things, so it wasn’t our favorite, but I can see other people enjoying this area more! We should have definitely done brunch over here because they had the cutest restaurants and everyone was drinking mimosas!
After exploring Dallas a little more, we checked into our hotel. We stayed at the Marriott City Center. It was a nice hotel and they upgraded me so no complaints about my stay!
We went to an early dinner at Kenichi – this is rated one of the best sushi places in Dallas. I was definitely impressed! We ordered some yellowtail sashimi and some of their specialty rolls including the Morgan and Mean Green! Everything was really yummy. I would definitely recommend, and I want to go back sometime.
We chose the restaurant partly based on its proximity to the American Airlines Center. We went to the Dallas Stars hockey game, so we wanted to be close. The game was actually really exciting and it was tied at the end of regulation. Unfortunately, the Dallas Stars did not end up winning, but it was still fun. Alex is still a Minnesota Wild fan, so he wasn’t too upset either 🙂
We got up and left first thing Sunday morning. I had been feeling a little off for a few days, so I wanted to get home to rest up for the week, organize, meal plan, etc.
Unfortunately, as I am sitting here writing this, I am extremely sick with a bad cold 🙁 I guess it is that time of the year. January has been so hectic for us, so it was only a matter of time until all the hustle and bustle caught up with me.
I am hoping I can kick this cold in the next day or two – it’s supposed to be a beautiful week in Houston, so I want to get outside and enjoy it, go for some runs or bikes rides and maybe a happy hour!
Anyways, that is all for today! I hope y’all enjoyed reading a quick recap of our little weekend getaway. Have you ever been to the DFW area? What are some of your favorite things to do in the city? I am sure we will be back soon!
