Happy Sunday! I hope everyone had a great weekend. We spent the entire weekend cooling off in the pool, so that was fun. I am so thankful for our pool during these hot summer months.
Today, I wanted to share with you one of our favorite cocktail recipes! Alex has always been a big fan of Old Fashioneds, but I never really liked them until a couple of months ago. They are really tasty, and I love the cinnamon flavor that gets brought out in the cocktail. I know these aren’t for everyone, but I would recommend giving it a try sometime (even if you don’t like bourbon)!
Alex's Old Fashioned
Ingredients
- 3 oz bourbon
- 1 orange peel
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- 3-5 dashes of bitters
- 1 big ice cube
- 1-2 T water
Instructions
- Add 1 tsp brown sugar to a cocktail glass.
- Add 3-5 dashes of bitters to the glass (we do closer to 5 because we like it more savory)
- Add a splash of water to the cocktail glass and use a bar spoon to stir.
- Add 3 oz of bourbon to your glass.
- Add your big ice cube to the glass and stir one more time.
- Using a kitchen torch or lighter, carefully flame your orange peel for a few seconds. Once you have done that, rub the peel around the rim of your cocktail glass. You can also twist and ring out the peel for a little bit more flavor. Place the orange peel in the glass once you have completed the above steps.
Have y’all ever tried an Old Fashioned? If so, what is your favorite recipe? Do you like to add more bitters? Or maybe more orange flavor?
I am always curious what variations people try out! Let me know your favorite recipe in the comments below.
