It’s Friday, and I am so ready for a big glass of wine. Anyone else with me? The heat in Houston isn’t backing down anytime soon, so I’ll be drinking white wine and rosé for the next couple of months. It’s the perfect poolside pairing!
Since wine is my drink of choice, I have acquired several wine tools and gadgets over the years. Today on the blog, I wanted to talk about some of my favorite wine accessories and why I like them so much. If you are a big wino like me, you probably own most of these products below!
- Wine Cooler
- If you plan to drink your wine outside during the summer, you need one of these! I actually just ordered one off Amazon last week, and it works great. You can fit an entire bottle of wine in the cooler, and you can keep the bottle inside the cooler as you pour it. Think of this as a Yeti for your wine bottle.
- Cork Puller
- Believe it or not, this is what I use to open most of my wine. It is a little tricky to figure out at first, but once you get the hang of it, you won’t want to return to the normal corkscrew. I love using the cork puller because it keeps the cork intact. These are really only supposed to be used on older bottles of wine, but I like using it on current vintages as well. I would definitely invest in one of these if you are holding on to your wine for 10+ years.
- Decanter
- I love decanting a good bottle of red wine. If we are opening a Cabernet Sauvignon that is 5+ years old, we always decant and let it breathe for an hour or so. The older the wine is, the longer it should breathe before your drink it. We opened a 2002 Jordan Cabernet recently, and we did not decant it early enough. We decanted it about an hour before dinner, but we really should have done 2+ hours in the decanter. Even if you don’t have older vintages, it is still fun to decant your wine for a dinner party or something!
- Foil Cutter
- This is always my first step before opening any bottle of wine (unless it’s a screw top). Make sure you are taking the foil off before pulling the cork out. These foil cutters are cheap and easy to use. I don’t like using a knife to cut the foil off because I feel like I’m going to hurt myself or someone else. It is much safer to use the foil cutter.
- Travel Corkscrew
- We travel quite a bit, so I always make sure to have a TSA-approved corkscrew in my purse. We will sometimes bring a bottle of wine back to our hotel room, so it’s nice to have a corkscrew with us. Some hotels do provide one in the room, but I don’t like taking my chances. I always come prepared with the essentials!
- Wine Fridge
- If you have 50+ bottles of wine in your home, I would invest in a wine fridge. Your wine should be stored at the correct temperature and humidity, especially if you are aging it for a few years. All of our Cabernet Sauvignon and Bordeaux blends are stored in our wine fridge at 54 degrees. We keep other bottles out in the open at room temperature, but we drink those much faster.
- Wine Wipes
- Do your teeth and lips ever turn purple after having a few glasses of red wine? Mine do! I don’t like having purple lips, so I have these wine wipes in my purse at all times. These work really well, and I have already gone through several packs myself. If you love red wine like I do, you might want to invest in these!
